SWTOR: Space Battles (I find your lack of music disturbing…)

So I’ve been playing Space Battles on SWTOR and I’ve had this constant feeling that something was missing, it suddenly hit me like a proton torpedo that it’s the music; a single short track that slows the gameplay.

Unwilling to consider this section of the game dead I’ve played various Star Wars tracks from the films (Battle of the Heroes/Imperial March/Duel of the Fates) over the gameplay and found myself instantly engrossed as if I was playing a new Lylat Wars or Rogue Squadron in HD.

Additionally I’ve put on a few tracks from my own music collection, so far Korn seems to work pretty well and accents the numerous enemies and objectives, I imagine anything with a fast beat will be suited to Space Battle playlists. Try it yourself and let me know what you think!

Remember that Bioware have already stated that they’ll “continue to add missions to the space game” and also have a “special project going on right now that will expand space gameplay in a significant way”.

What do people like/dislike about the Space Battles so far and what do you want to see added to this section of the game in the future?

P.S I don’t really find the lack of music disturbing, Bioware just composed a ton of beautiful music for the game; focusing their efforts on this area of the game would have been impractical…I just thought it was a catchy title!

Indie Royale Bundle

Just found a new independent game bundle site thanks to Logan Decker, editor-in-chief at PC Gamer US (@logandecker). The site is a joint venture between IndieGames.com and Desura and known as Indie Royale; it has a pretty cool element to it!

Basically if a person buys the bundle at the minimum price the price of the bundle goes up, if someone pays above the price the price of the bundle goes down. Sweet!…won’t lie been watching the price fluctuate for the past few mins and telling my girlfriend that she should buy the bundle now because the price keeps going up ^.^ Bundles are composed of four indie games will go up on the site every two weeks and last 5 days each; the games (most) can be redeemed on Desura, Steam and direct download.

The current games in ‘The Launch Bundle’ are as follows:

  • A.R.E.S Extinction Agenda
  • Gemini Rue (this game only went on Steam on the 26th!)
  • Sanctum
  • Nimbus

There’s also a bonus DLC offer for every 10, 000 bundles sold they’ll add a single DLC for Sanctum that can be redeemed in all bundles.

The price keeps fluctuating even as I write this, occasionally you’ll see someone donating large amounts which knocks the price of the bundle back down…whoever came up with this concept is awesome! Don’t delay, get your bundle today!

Want a Quake/Doom style shooter from indie game developer Kot-In-Action? Tell them!

Indie game developer Kot-In-Action (guys who made Steel Storm; game I reviewed earlier this year), are considering making an old school FPS in the style of Quake and Doom (guns, demons and everything). You game? Think that style of game these days is lame? Let em know in their poll here (top right of page) and be part of an indie game developers history.

Game-A-Week: Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing

Title: Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing (PC)

The Gist: Ever play Mario Kart? It’s difficult not to play this as a Mario Kart game with every Nintendo character replaced with someone from a Sonic or Sega game. It does however have some things that set it apart from its Nintendo counterpart and in some ways feels like an improvement.

Pros: What this game does best is accept being a copy of Mario Kart and then add things that Mario Kart doesn’t have. There’s standard racing, battles and time trials as well as missions which basically have your racer complete a task such as catching up with a specific racer. The 2/3/4 player split screen co-op is actually a lot better than I imagined; whilst standard racing and battles are very Mario Kart like they’ve introduced elimination (after a certain amount of time the person in the last position of the race is eliminated), capture the chao (flag) and one of my favorite modes called Collect the Emeralds where you and fellow players grab and hold onto as many emeralds as you can…the cool bit being that you can shoot your opponents and cause their emeralds to fly free for the taking; the more emeralds you have and the longer you have them contributes to an overall score. Game-A-Week: Crazy Taxi

Title: Crazy Taxi (Steam’s PC Port)

The Gist: Taxi! Yo can I get a taxi here? One that’s Crazzzzzzzzzy, jumps off ramps! One that’ll drive so close to oncoming traffic that my breakfast breaks the sound barrier on its way out the car! Eww!…too far! >.< But you get the idea. Crazy Taxi’s a game where you literally just drive a taxi around a sandbox city picking up passengers looking for a good time (no not like that, you’ve been playing too much GTA). Performing stunts such as almost crashing into cars whilst trying to reach your destination in the quickest time possible earns you bonus fare, the games fast paced and full of loud cheesy music that’ll keep the hyperactive part of your gaming brain entertained.
